Cape Fear Clinic is truly on the front lines of basic healthcare delivery in southeastern North Carolina. Founded in 1991, as Tileston Health Clinic,  by three compassionate physicians, our clinic has grown substantially as we fulfill our mission of providing compassionate and affordable patient-centered healthcare to low income individuals and families in the Cape Fear region, regardless of ability to pay.

With 11 staff members and the assistance of over 200 active volunteers, the Cape Fear Clinic now serves over 1,000 active patients, with hundreds of new patients added every year. And with every passing month, we are being asked to do more.

The Affordable Care Act has changed the way that many low-income people access basic medical, dental and mental health services and the medications that are prescribed for them. If we are to continue serving those who need health care – if we are to make our community a healthier place – we must change and expand our capabilities accordingly.

We are developing plans to serve patients who may be fortunate enough to receive assistance under the Affordable Care Act, but still must depend on gifts from individuals and organizations for the majority of our funding, however.

Your help is critical. A gift to the Cape Fear Clinic is not only an investment in this region, it is also an affirmation of the value of all its residents and their fundamental human right to basic health care, regardless of their ability to pay.

Cape Fear Clinic was founded in 1991, as Tileston Health Clinic, by a group of dedicated volunteers who recognized a need for health care to all individuals regardless of their ability to pay.  Now more than 23 years later, we are still a volunteer-driven organization. Our volunteers have been and continue to be instrumental in the operation of our clinic. Volunteers serve in every service area and department of our organization.

From the doctors, nurses, and medical support staff who provide medical services to administrative volunteers and everyone in between, we have volunteers.

For some of our volunteers, their commitment to our clinic transitioned to full time staff members: Dr. Jennifer Buxton, Director of Pharmacy Services, began as a volunteer in our pharmacy department while attending college.  Adam Stribling, our Operations Manager, worked as a volunteer prior to joining our team as a Medical Assistant.

Our all-volunteer Board of Directors includes health care administrators, healthcare providers, educators, accountants, writers, CPAs, Pharmacists, and retirees who donate their time and talent to assist Cape Fear Clinic achieve its mission.

Our volunteers are pivotal to our continuing efforts to serve the low-income uninsured and underinsured individuals within our community. We are always happy to welcome more volunteers to assist us in any of of our departmetnts of service areas.  No medical or other clinical experience is necessary, only the desire to help our patients.
