Chief Medical Officer 


Janelle Rhyne, MD, MACP, joined Cape Fear Clinic in 2013 as our first staff Chief Medical Officer.  Dr. Rhyne is a leading physician in the fields of internal medicine and infectious disease and is widely respected for leadership roles she's held at local, state and national levels.


For the past six years, Dr. Rhyne has worked for the New Hanover County Health Department, most recently as a medical consultant and as a physician in clinical services. For 18 years prior, she practiced at Wilmington Health Associates, specializing in internal medicine and infectious disease. For more than 20 years she has been a Clinical Associate Professor with the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Medicine. She developed and helped acquire grant funding from CFMF in 2000 for a groundbreaking program at NHRMC to address hospital infections, helping it become one of the first hospitals to adopt a national model that has become a standard in the profession.


Dr. Rhyne is Past-Chair of the Federation of State Medical Boards. She has served on previous advisory boards and charitable foundations, and served as President of the North Carolina Chapter of the American College of Physicians, President of the North Carolina Society of Internal Medicine, Governor of the North Carolina Chapter of the American College of Physicians, Chief of Staff of New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and President of the North Carolina Medical Board.  


Dr. Rhyne was awarded the 2014 Healthcare Heroes Physican of the Year Award.
